Working backwards through the years, here are graduation photos from the Elizabeth General Medical Center School of Nursing, the Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing and the Elizabeth General Hospital and Dispensary School of Nursing.
The originals of the photos on these pages can be found at the Elizabeth Public Library's Local History Department. Some photos are not available at this time because they were not part of the collection that was donated to the Library.

School of Nursing "Home"
Coming Full Circle
In the early days of the School of Nursing many students lived at the school, and the experienced students and graduate students were often sent out into the community to provide home care. This also helped the school cover expenses like salaries, meals, books and other normal costs. During this time, the school moved from a small house on Spring St. to a larger home known as the Baremore Mansion, and then to a home at 133 Reid St. which was expanded during this period and later razed to make way for a more modern building in the 1970's.
In the 1990's, as the school expanded further, the school moved its operations to the Union County College campus on W. Jersey St. and that affiliation continues with RWJBarnabas/Trinitas School of Nursing in an even newer building on W. Jersey St.
An interesting footnote is that the original "Free Dispensary" that grew over time into Elizabeth General started in a storefront, "three doors from Broad St. on W. Jersey" in 1877. These two locations are literally a "stone's throw" apart and the care that began in this free clinic is now a major medical facility with its prestigious nursing school just a few doors away.
